I’ve been offering Mommy & Me Mini Sessions in Newburgh, Indiana for over a decade now. In honor of Mother’s Day, I wanted to spotlight some of the incredible mothers I had the opportunity to work with this year. They are all such amazing mamas and I wanted to share their advice and insight into motherhood. Over the next 10 days I will be sharing a couple mothers, their images and their advice, every day on socials and the blog. My hope is that new and existing moms can either gather advice or feel a little less alone in this crazy thing called motherhood.

RACHEL

How many children do you have and what are their ages?

I have one child and he is two years old.

What is the best part of motherhood?

The best part of motherhood is watching life through his little eyes. All the simple moments that bring a smile to his face. A simple day in the park and a visit to the playground with a snack can be the best day ever to him!!!

What is the hardest part about being a mother?

The hardest part of being a mother is never knowing what to expect of the day and pivoting when things go unexpectedly.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received about parenting?

The best advice I’ve received is to not have big expectations and things will turn out better than you expected. Along with some good advice to just enjoy every day of them being little because it goes by so fast!

If you could give a new mother one piece of advice, what would it be?

Enjoy all the sweet little moments. Take lots of photos and videos, but don’t forget to just soak it all in and put your phone down too.

KATE

How many children do you have and what are their ages?

3 children – Charlotte, 13, Leyton, 9, and Meredith, 7.

What is the best part of motherhood?

My girls are dancers, and it is THE best feeling when they come running off stage after dancing and leap into my arms because they are so proud of themselves. Or when my son rehashes every detail of a soccer game with me on the ride home. I love celebrating their passions and watching them find their interests. Bedtime is a close second.

What is the hardest part about being a mother?

The hardest part of being a mom is twofold for me. The mental load of motherhood is something I wasn’t prepared for. “Hidden” tasks require way more time than they are given credit for, but when they don’t get accomplished, everything crumbles. Second is regulating by own emotions so I can help my crew regulate theirs! …work in progress over here.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received about parenting?

Meet them where they are.

If you could give a new mother one piece of advice, what would it be?

You are whole human, too. Don’t forget you are a person with real needs, wants, and dreams, and just because you become a mom, it doesn’t mean those things aren’t significant and important. Love you. Make time for you, and even when you feel guilty for carving time of out the day to focus on yourself, know that despite the guilt, a happy mom is worth that time.

CAROLINE

How many children do you have and what are their ages?

2 children; Liam, 16 and Isaac, 9

What is the best part of motherhood?

Seeing your kid do far more than you could do.

What is the hardest part about being a mother?

Watching your child struggle and knowing it’s better to let him learn than stepping in to help.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received about parenting?

You can’t hold them too much.

If you could give a new mother one piece of advice, what would it be?

Let them play in the sand, the mud and in the water. Messes are apart of life and we try to keep things too neat.
