I’ve been offering Mommy & Me Mini Sessions in Newburgh, Indiana for over a decade now. In honor of Mother’s Day, I wanted to spotlight some of the incredible mothers I had the opportunity to work with this year. They are all such amazing mamas and I wanted to share their advice and insight into motherhood. Over the next 10 days I will be sharing a couple mothers, their images and their advice, every day on socials and the blog. My hope is that new and existing moms can either gather advice or feel a little less alone in this crazy thing called motherhood.
ERIN

How many children do you have and what are their ages?
I have three, 4.5-year-old twins and a 7-month-old.
What is the best part of motherhood?
The best part of motherhood is unconditional love and joy. The innocence of your children bring out the best version of yourself even on the hardest days and they always illuminate love.
What is the hardest part about being a mother?
The hardest part of motherhood has been time. As a mother of 3, time is sparse and making sure to give each quality time can be difficult. And knowing time isn’t limitless. Time flies in a blink of an eye.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received about parenting?
The best advice I received about parenting is you’re not there to be their friend. You’re there to teach, nurture and shape them into the person they’ll become! As they grow into an adult, the relationship will change into a friendship and you’ll be someone they’ll look up to.
If you could give a new mother one piece of advice, what would it be?
The best advice I could give as a seasoned mother is to let go and things really aren’t that deep. Simply let go of the mess, let go of trying to do it all and lean into the chaos. Missed nap time, ate donuts for breakfast, wearing mix matched clothes, running through the grocery story.. let them. It won’t always be chaotic. The silence will hit when you least expect it.
SUSAN

How many children do you have and what are their ages?
2 children; Eleanor – 3 years and Theodore – 11 months
What is the best part of motherhood?
Seeing the world through your children’s eyes and learning alongside them
What is the hardest part about being a mother?
Giving all of yourself to your kids, but still feeling like you are never doing enough. You want to give them the best of everything, but that isn’t possible all the time. Also, knowing that time moves quickly and wishing you could bottle up every age, every special moment, and their innocence forever.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received about parenting?
Invest time in teaching them well while they are little and it will pay in dividends later.
If you could give a new mother one piece of advice, what would it be?
You become an entirely new person when you become a mom. It is okay to grieve the old you. Let go of her and any strict standards she had. Instead, learn to go with the flow and celebrate this newer, stronger version of you. You are enough. Your kids think you are the best and they only need one thing from you-love!
KENDRA

How many children do you have and what are their ages?
I have one 2-year-old son.
What is the best part of motherhood?
The best part of motherhood to me is watching your child find things that peak his interest and playing with what he loves. Lightning McQueen feels like he’s part of our family now!
What is the hardest part about being a mother?
The hardest part about being a mom for me is the mom guilt of always wondering if you’re doing enough for your kid. My goal is to help him make fun memories and start traditions that he will hopefully enjoy and carry on with him to his family.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received about parenting?
The best advice that I have ever received was no matter how tired or overwhelmed you are, it will pass and to just slow down and soak in all the little moments cause the days might seem long but the years will fly by.
If you could give a new mother one piece of advice, what would it be?
My advice for new moms is to not listen to people who say you’ll spoil your baby for holding them so much. You hold that baby as much as you want to! Soak in all those little snuggles.
